A Timed Exam is a structured form of assessment where test-takers are required to complete all questions within a predetermined time frame. Unlike standard assessments that can be completed at any time and pace, timed exams impose strict time constraints, adding an additional layer of challenge by testing both knowledge and time management. Once the test is initiated, the timer starts counting down, and participants are expected to submit their responses before the time limit elapses.
Here are the essential components of timed exams:
Defined Time Limit: Every exam is equipped with a fixed time limit that begins once the student starts the test. If the time runs out before the answers are submitted, the exam will close automatically, potentially submitting any incomplete responses.
No Interruptions Allowed: After the exam begins, it
cannot be paused or restarted under any circumstances. The exam continues to
progress even if a participant experiences interruptions, emphasizing the
importance of completing it in one go. However, contradicting this rule, a participant
can request a time reset when their time has expired, and the instructor has
the ability to reset the time for them.
Here's how to take a timed exam:
2. Check the time limit displayed on the exam page. Ensure you
have enough time to complete the exam.
6. After completing all units, review your answers and click "End My Exam" at the top of the page. If time runs out, the exam will automatically end.
Hiding the Exam Timer
The exam timer is visible by default, but you can choose to
hide or show it:
Requesting Additional Time
If you need extra time for a timed exam, you can request it. Course teams and instructors have the ability to extend the time limit for individual students to accommodate specific needs.
The decision to grant additional time is at the discretion of the course team, based on their chosen criteria. For information about the availability of extra time, please contact your course team directly.
