Setting Up an External Domain

Setting Up an External Domain

edSPIRIT is a robust platform that enables users to build their educational websites. When you create a website through edSPIRIT, it is assigned a subdomain on the edspirit.com domain by default like: my-website.edspirit.com. Nevertheless, you can use your domain name instead, giving your website a more personalized and professional touch.

To use your domain, follow these simple steps:
1. The account owner or site administrator should purchase the desired domain name from a domain registrar. If you already have a domain, skip to the next step. Popular domain registrars include GoDaddy, Namecheap, and Google Domains. After that, the next step is to configure the DNS (Domain Name System) settings.

2. The next step is to configure the DNS (Doman Name System) settings. DNS settings are crucial as they connect the domain name to the appropriate IP address, guaranteeing that visitors are directed to the correct website. The process of configuring DNS settings may differ depending on the domain registrar, but it typically includes accessing the domain's DNS management panel and adding the required records, such as an A record and a CNAME record. To access the list of IP addresses associated with your organization, go to your Admin Control (AC) panel -> Configuration -> External Domain. You will find instructions on which records with what values should be created there.

Note: The IP addresses shown in the picture are just an example. Use the values displayed in your Admin Console.
3. Once you have correctly configured the DNS settings, the next step is to enter your domain and wait for edSPIRIT to do its magic. It usually takes about less than 5 minutes to finish the procedure and you (The organization admin) will receive an email, once it’s finished.
Using your domain with edSPIRIT has several benefits. Firstly, it gives your educational website a more professional and customized look. Instead of using a generic subdomain, you can have a domain name that reflects your organization's name or brand, which can help create a stronger identity and make your website more memorable to visitors.

Secondly, having your domain can also improve your website's search engine optimization (SEO). Search engines tend to prioritize websites with their domain over those on subdomains, so using your domain can potentially boost your website's visibility and rankings in search engine results.

Lastly, using your domain can enhance the credibility and trustworthiness of your organization. A unique domain name gives the impression that your organization is established and serious about its online presence. This can be especially important for educational institutions or organizations that want to build trust with their students, parents, or other stakeholders.

To sum up, while edSPIRIT websites are assigned a subdomain on the edspirit.com domain by default, you can use your domain for a more personalized and professional website. By purchasing a domain, configuring the DNS settings, and selecting the desired domain in the edSPIRIT platform, you can have a unique domain name that enhances your website's appearance, SEO, and credibility.
