Assignment Type Fields

Assignment Type Fields

To ensure that each student's academic progress is accurately recorded, it is essential to create distinct assignment types for the course and determine their weight on the total grade.

Assignments may often include a variety of forms, such as the following.
  1. Students are expected to complete 10 assignments for a combined 50% of the course grade;
  2. Students are expected to take a midterm assessment that accounts for 20% of the course grade.
  3. Completing a final exam that will count for 30% of their overall grade

A new course is equipped with four different types of assignments by default:
  1. Homework
  2. Lab
  3. Midterm Exam
  4. Final Exam

Assignments can be tailored according to specific needs, modified or removed as necessary, and new assignment types created.

Notes
Note: In a MOOC, it is expected that students may be confronted with personal predicaments or technical complications such as power failures and lack of internet connection. As an instructor, you won't have the capacity to grant extra time on an individual basis; however, flexibility can be provided by formulating longer deadlines and permitting droppable tasks.

You can arrange the fields that follow for each type of assignment.

  • Assignment Type Name

The general assignment category. The learners will be able to view this name.

Notes
The weight of each type of assignment within a course is fixed, regardless of the number or complexity. Therefore, whether there are 10 questions on a homework sheet or 20 does not affect its numerical worth in terms of that student's grade.
  1. Abbreviation

On the Progress tab of a learner's account, this is the short name of an assignment.

  1. Weight of Total Grade

This type of assignments together will comprise the percent value which is set in Weight of Total Grade.

The aggregate/total weight of assignments of all types must equal 100.

Notes
Please do not put the percent sign (%) in this field.

  1. Total Number

The aggregate of subsections in your course which include problems of the same type as this assignment.

  1. Number of Droppable
The set of this type of assignment which the grader will drop. The grader will have the choice to drop the lowest-scored assignments before other assignments.

To produce a different kind of assignment, check the base part of the Grading page for the New Assignment Type.

Afterward, customize it as per the instructions presented below.
